. . . OCALA RAY is a POWER TRIO
based in Tampere "Rock City" Finland

Folks & audiences who heard the band live have described it as a
love child of
David Bowie & Fu Manchu, raised by a Dinosaur (Jr)
at Neil Young's ranch... does that make sense?¿!!!

You could call their music a Gumbo made out of Singer-Songwriter College Rock Radio with some fire under the butt. A summery Southern Feel meets the Northwestern Autumn, mixed with the energy of the early Detroit Rock of the late 60s & early 70s, sprinkled with a breeze of Nordic Psychedelic Vibes.

In the end they guys approach all aspect of
their music with no BS. It is all about the energy

& the moment when the band hits the stage.

BACKGROUND CHECK ...

Simo Saneri, drums & skateboards ( Galaxy Riders, FIN )

Riku Pirttiniemi, bass & vocals ( Death Hawks & Dust Mountain, FIN )

Andy G. Lohner, guitar & vocals ( Crimson Tide & Ira Hayes, USA / AUT )

Their debut album Déjà Vu On A Brand New Day was self-released on vinyl & digital under their own label Alachua Records on Dec 2nd 2022. Featuring a list of several guest artists from bands such as Polymoon, Sister Flo, Räjäyttäjät Amuri. Even without any shows on their back the first single Holy & Over ( released Oct 2nd 2022 ) was covered by Soundi ( Finland's biggest Music Magazine ) as well as got air play on Radio Helsinki ( which featured further singles later down the line ).

Their first gig was a home town show at Maanalainen Dec 9th 2022 followed by several gigs in spring and summer of 2023, starting off at Helsinki's renowned On The Rocks. By now they have shared the stages with bands such as Mara Balls, Tommi Puukko, Ninni Forever Band, Aino ja Hajonneet & others. Ocala Ray closed the year on 22nd of Dec with a show at one of Finlands most classic Punk venues ( Vastavirta Klubi ) sharing the bill with the Ninni Forever Band Voikukat.

In 2024 they kept on the same path, establisnig themself as a true live band, some may say a Power Trio! The shows they play in 2024 also included their first bookings at summer festivals, along side other great Finnish acts. As side of live shows the band wrote material for their second album and already cut most of the basic tracks for it, further work and a release is planed for summer 2025.

TWO HEAD DOG TOUR - Spring 2025

The band is finalizing their bookings for their first European Tour. The Two Headed Dog Tour is very much a home coming and a revisit in many ways. Andy Lohner (guitar and vocals) used to roam the streets and clubs of Austria with his bands Crimson Tide and Ira Hayes, before moving to London and later to Finland, where Ocala Ray was formed. While doing so, Riku Pirttiniemi (bass and vocals) came through many of the same cities & countries (then on this tour) with his legendary Finnish neo-psychedelic rock band Death Hawks. Coming full circle with Simo Saneri behind the drums, hitting the road for some Rock’n’Roll Music!

To celebrate this tour they take along none other than Ether Eye, which is the wonder child of Teemu Markkula. Long time friend and fellow founding member (lead singer and songwriter) of the Death Hawks & guitar player of the psychic rock band Seremonia.

The tour stops will be Liepaja (LV), Gdasnk (PO), Warsaw (PO), Graz (AT), Vienna (AT), Prague (CZ), Bad Ischl (AT) and will end with a DIY show at Helsinki's Suvilahti Skatepark, a show in Turku and a final show at Tampere's Laikunlava. Dates are spread out over
midd/late April until end of May.

DEBUT Album

all_miami.jpg

There wasn't much fuzz ( beside the billion fuzz distortion pedals used ) when it came to creating their debut album Déjà Vu O A Brand New Day.

With a catalog of loosely written songs, Andy G. Lohner ( Austrian & North Florida Native Singer Songwriter ) got together with Simo Saneri ( Galaxy Riders, Sevendown ) on Drums as well as with Bass Player & Vocalist Riku Pirtteniemi ( Death Hawks, Dustmountain ).  Both full blown musicians, who don’t need to discuss music, but rather express it, while they make it. Together they made these ideas into the songs they are today.

The band had ( maybe ) three or four rehearsal before they hit record, the energy was there! "The rest we'll figure along the way" was the attitude from the start. Some recordings are the first time, the band ever played the song. “Perfection” was never the goal, rather the idea of capturing the raw energy of three guys getting together making music for the first time. Three guys who became a band during this process. Having friends appear on curtain tracks was a glorified bonus, they wouldn't wonna miss. After all the process was all about serve the music!

Media the band is proud of...

The Spine Magazine is an annual Magazine / Coffee Table Book birthed out of the legendary Finnish Slammer Magazine. While the focus is on snowboarding, this one also writes about the people who are in the scene and who live it. Every year one band is featured, to get a eight page interview was an honor.
