Do Did Done (Single)

Like most songs on Ocala Ray’s debut album Déjà Vu On A Brand New Day the song Do Did Done was captured pretty fresh with not much rehearsal before hitting the record button. In fact this one was “written” by the Power Trio the night before. The following day there were two takes of the song recorded. The first one plus some over dubs is what you hear on the record (which included their honorable band member Mikko Salonen on synths).

Why write “written” in brackets?

Alot of the song ideas that Andy brought to the sessions had all sorts of chord changes and inversions of the riffs, kinda complicated or off the beaten path, some may say weird. While the other two members (Riku & Simo) didn’t mind those, they felt that they wanted a change of pace and said "Lets come up with something simple". Riku just hit that bass and Simo came in with that beat, Andy followed suit with the fuzz & guitar,… in the same order how you hear it on the record. The rough idea the trio came up with the was enough for them to let the song unfold while it got recorded.
 

The following day just before recording, Andy wanted to show the boys what chord extension he  came up with for the C-part, following the E-chord which makes up the chorus. Riku interrupted him in a straight Finnish manner and said “NO, when we go to E, we stay on E!”… Andy looked over to Simo, who ensured him with his look that he agreed with what Riku said. Andy knew, when the boys are up to something, you better hit record and let the moment take over.​
